Stefan Karl Biography

Stefan Karl Stefansson (born July 10, 1975 in Hafnarfjorður, Iceland) is an Icelandic film and stage actor who is best known for playing the character Robbie Rotten on the television show LazyTown.

When Stefánsson was fourteen, he made his first appearance on stage as a guard in Robin Hood. He is a well-known performer in Iceland and has starred in many plays, also appearing in a few films.

He currently lives in San Diego with his wife, Icelandic actress, author and former TV-host Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir, their three daughters and newborn son.

Stefan Karl plays “Robbie Rotten” in LazyTown. A gifted actor and musician, Karl has worked extensively in television, film, theater, radio and stand-up comedy in his native Iceland. A member of the National Theater of Iceland, he has appeared in many productions including Cyrano de Bergerac and Little Shop of Horrors.

Karl sings and plays many instruments including piano, organ, drums and accordion. He has recorded several CDs as both singer and musician. He has also been a soccer referee for the soccer association of Iceland and a trained martial artist and fencer.

For the past six years, Karl has devoted much of his time to children, founding the Rainbow Children organization, which works closely with schools and authorities to prevent bullying and persecution in schools. In 2002, he was named Man of the Year by the Icelandic media for his outstanding volunteer work for children. In 2003, he was also nominated by Junior Chamber for his achievements in working with children.
